Before & Aftercare

Cosmetic Tattooing (Brows)

Pre-procedure Instructions
  • Waxing on or near the treatment area needs to be avoided at least 5 days prior to your appointment. This is to maintain the skins integrity.
  • Your cosmetic tattoo artist needs to determine your true skin colour and undertones. This is vital for us to choose the right colour. All areas to be treated will be cleaned of all makeup and sterilised prior to the treatment. Please avoid wearing makeup or tanning prior to your appointment.
  • All chemical peels, skin needling & microdermabrasion need to be avoided for 4 weeks pre-treatment.
  • The use of retinols, Vit A and Glycolic need to be stopped 4 weeks prior to your appointment as these can act as skin thinners and disrupt the true integrity of the skin.
  • Please avoid excessive heat treatments / activities the day of your appointment ie: exercising, saunas sunbathing etc.
  • You must wait 3 weeks after having a botox / filler treatment before you can have your tattoo.
  • Please be aware that having a tattoo procedure during a menstrual cycle can make you hypersensitive.
  • Do not take fish oil or Vit E for 1 week prior to your appointment as these are natural blood thinners.
  • Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen for pain relief as these also thin the blood.
  • Do not drink alcohol within 24 hours before your appointment.
  • Do not consume coffee before your procedure.

  • Apply a thin layer of tattoo after care cream to the area 2 – 3 times a day for 7 – 10 days.
  • Avoid picking or scratching the area during the healing process as this will lift the pigment from the tattoo, simply apply more after care cream.
  • Try to avoid direct contact with the eyes during the healing process.
  • Avoid creating heat to the area i.e. exercise, sauna & sun exposure for 72 hours post treatment.
  • It is very normal for eyes to feel heavy, irritated, slightly swollen, or scratchy after your tattoo, this will subside.

Aftercare Information
Lips

  • Immediately after your session, your lips may feel slightly swollen and sensitive and your colour will appear darker at first.
  • Use your aftercare cream like a lip balm! This is important with lips as they will become quite dry after your session. Given that we use our lips a lot, you will notice this more than other areas.
  • No hot drinks, spicy foods, or kissing (yes we knowwww) for the first 48 hours.
  • No makeup, moisturisers, cleansers, or direct liquid to the area for the first 5 – 7 days. Remember to drink through a straw during this time.
  • Colour retention in the lips is a lot less than with the brows. You may lose 50 – 80% of your pigment after your initial session.
  • There is an extremely high possibility you will develop a coldsore, whether you have had them previously or not. This is due to the over-stimulation caused to the lips which are overly sensitive. Please take an anti-viral medication pre & post procedure to help the severity of an outbreak. You can get this medication over the counter from any pharmacy.
  • Protect your investment! Apply SPF to the area when exposed to sunlight, avoid over exfoliation, and remember, you are responsible for your refresh appointment, this helps keep the colour true.

Please contact Urban Tan Lash & Beauty if you have any questions in relation to your
lip tattoo

Skin Needling

Pre Procedure Instructions
Chemical Peels (Fruit Acid / Glycolic Acid / Lactic Acid / Beta Hydroxy Acid / Retinoic Acid / Trichloroacetic (TCA):
If a Chemical Peel is performed after a clinical Skin Needling treatment, the patient risks the peel solution entering the puncture channels created by the needling device, creating immediate surface and possible internal burning.

Not only is sensitivity and an increased recovery period a consequence, there is also the risk of creating fibrotic scar tissue.

It is recommended not to perform a Very Superficial Peel (VSP) under two weeks, a Superficial Peel (SP) under 3-4 weeks, or a Medium Depth Peel (MP) under 4 weeks either side of a Skin Needling treatment.
A gentle Enzyme Peel / Exfoliation (Papaya or Bromelain) may be applied to the skin 4-5 days’ post needling, providing the enzymes are not combined with any other exfoliating agents listed above.

Microdermabrasion:
Not only will the abrasive action cause undue irritation, the Aluminium Oxide crystals used in Crystal Microdermabrasion can collect within the puncture channels creating immediate sensitivity, possible grazing and an increased recovery period.
Diamond-Tip Microdermabrasion likewise can increase the risk of skin sensitivity, grazing and recovery period. It is recommended not to perform Microdermabrasion under 2 weeks after a Skin Needling treatment. For very thickened, oily skins or clients who are non-responsive to TLA, a very light microdermabrasion may be performed prior to TLA application during a Skin Needling Clinical treatment.

IPL (Photo rejuvenation) / Laser / Fractional Laser:
The dramatic results achieved with any Laser are via the creation of fibrotic scar tissue within the skin. As the skin is ablated or burnt, collagen rich scar tissue is formed, thus restructuring the dermis from within.

The technology of Skin Needling achieves its results by way of Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) – Collagen is stimulated by an electrical wound healing response without the use of heat and not by the formation of fibrous scar tissue. To combine the two treatments could result in burning, uneven fibrotic tissue formation and the creation of a pitted and dented skin surface over time.
It is recommended not to perform IPL / Laser or Fractional Laser Rejuvenation under 4 weeks either side of a Skin Needling treatment.

Muscle Relaxant Injections (including Botox / Dysport) / Dermal Fillers (including Collagen / Hyaluronic Acid):
To ensure even distribution of any cosmetic injectable, minimised bruising and a successful
result, Skin Needling treatments should not be performed under two weeks before or after such injections.
It is recommended to wait a minimum of two weeks before or after injectables including Sculptra or Aquamid.

Cosmetic / Plastic Surgery; Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT); Electrolysis / Diathermy; Waxing:
In order to prevent additional skin sensitivity, possible burning and unnecessary recovery periods, Skin Needling should not be performed on any cosmetic / plastic surgery or PDT client until their Doctors’ permission is sought. Likewise, an appropriate time period should be observed for those sensitive to such treatments as facial Electrolysis, Diathermy, Waxing or Threading.

Medical Conditions.

Diabetes:
Due to a possible slower healing response, diabetics may require additional time for recovery after a Skin Needling treatment.

Cold Sores (Herpes Simplex):
A Skin Needling treatment should not be conducted when any active sores are
present. The stimulation of treatment may increase the risk of future breakouts for those with sensitive tendencies.

Pregnancy:
Whilst there is no scientific or medical documentation proposing that a needling treatment to be a contraindication for pregnancy, always for the safety and comfort of both the client and the clinic seek a doctor’s advice prior to a treatment.

As the Tri M Wireless needling device is a cosmedical piece of equipment designed to deliver dramatic and long-lasting results, it is not available as a home care treatment. Furthermore, there are many factors that must be considered when prescribing either at-home needling with a home care roller or in-clinic treatments to prevent any blatant misuse or negative results. In order to prevent malpractice, the following considerations / contraindications must be observed:

Prescription Drugs Roaccutane / Accutane / Isotane:
To prevent any side effects such as scarring, burning and increased irritation, skin needling should not be performed on Roaccutane / Accutane / Isotane clients for 8-12 months after treatment.
Skin Needling should not be performed on any areas of active Stage 3 or 4 acne. It may increase outbreaks, create unnecessary discomfort and possible scarring.

Vitamin A / Tretinoin Preparations (Retin-A / Renova / Stieva-A / Retrieve) / Hydroquinone / Skin Bleaching Agents (Kojic Acid / Azelaic Acid):
Any of these topically applied formulations will experience increased activity, possible burning, hypersensitivity and the risk of scarring if used within 4 days of a Skin Needling treatment.

Antibiotics / Blood Thinning Medication (Warfarin – blood thinning medication) / Contraceptive Pill / Fish Oil Supplements / Ginseng / Gingko Biloba / Aspirin / Alcohol:
Be aware if any client is on such medications or supplements, or has consumed alcohol prior to their procedure, may increase the chances of minor bleeding during treatment, possible bruising and the presence of petechiae (blood spots, tiny red, purple or brown spots on the skin) post treatment.

Cosmeceutical Topical Skin Care
Any active cosmeceutical skin care products containing the following active ingredients should be avoided for at least 48 hours after a clinical Skin Needling treatment:

  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) including Glycolic and Lactic Acids – Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) including Salicylic Acid – Vitamin C (Ascorbic / L-Ascorbic Acid) – Benzoyl Peroxide
  • Vitamin A including Tretinoin; Retinol; Retinyl Palmitate
  • Skin Bleaching Agents including Hydroquinone; Kojic Acid; Azelaic Acid
  • Alcohol content greater than 6%

Patients should also avoid any highly-perfumed cosmetics or harsh cleansing agents such as soap or alkaline foaming cleansers.

All patients undergoing ANY skin needling treatment regardless of medical history, treatment experience or skin care regimen MUST use an SPF 15 sunscreen or greater every day to prevent possible hyperpigmentation, increased sun damage or unnecessary skin irritation.

BUT do not use sunscreen on the day of treatment.

Spray Tanning

Preparing For Your Tan
  • Exfoliate thoroughly, especially on areas like heels, ankles, wrists, elbows, and knees to remove dead skin cells before your tan. Aim to exfoliate daily in the week leading up to your appointment.

  • Shave or wax at least 24 hours before your spray tan, and avoid hot showers on the day of the tan to prevent uneven tanning caused by open pores.

  • Avoid using body oil, moisturizer, deodorant, or perfumes before your appointment as they can create a barrier that prevents the tan from penetrating properly.

  • Wear disposable g-strings provided or your own, but be prepared to wash them immediately after as they’ll be covered in spray.

  • Bring dark, loose-fitting clothes to wear after the tan to prevent it from rubbing off before it develops. Avoid tight undergarments and enclosed shoes that might leave marks.

  • Check the weather and bring an umbrella if rain is expected to avoid washing off the tan prematurely.

  • Time your appointment so you can go straight home afterward. Avoid public transport or activities that might cause sweating, like biking, as it can affect the tan’s outcome.

  • Avoid bringing large shoulder bags or backpacks to prevent leaving marks on your skin.

How To Keep Your Tan On
  • Wear loose, dark clothing after application to prevent the tan from rubbing off.
  • Avoid touching your body to prevent transferring the tanning solution to your hands.
  • Refrain from lying on couches or jumping into bed to prevent tan transfer to sheets.
  • Wait until the minimum development time before showering; use cool or lukewarm water without soap or shampoo during the first shower.
  • Pat yourself dry gently after the initial shower; avoid rubbing with a towel.
  • Use a gentle, sulfate-free soap for subsequent showers to maintain the tan’s lifespan; avoid bar soaps as they can strip the tan.
  • Moisturize twice daily using a sulfate-free body moisturizer -If you’re unsure about which moisturizer to use, we offer a sulfate-free moisturizer available for purchase at the salon.
  • Apply moisturizer on damp skin post-shower to lock in moisture.
  • Avoid sweating and moisture to prevent patchiness, especially in areas like underarms, breasts, and inner thighs.
  • Refrain from workouts until after the initial rinse (up to 8 hours) to maintain an even tan.
  • Avoid bubble baths, hot spas, extended swimming, and products that exfoliate the skin.
  • Expect your tan to last 5-7 days, but proper care can extend its duration.
